About Me

Let's get acquainted...

let me tell you a bit about my life as an educator and educational researcher and a family man...

I've been involved in education for the last eight years. My original life plan was to go into the medical field but, after spending some time in that arena, I realized it wasn't for me. I stumbled upon alternative education, and the district I currently work in (Juvenile Court and Community Schools), and I am so glad I did! After teaching at both Juvenile Halls in the county, I taught math and science at a center for teens experiencing homelessness or instability with housing. Currently, I am the principal at Monarch School, a K-12 school for students impacted by homelessness. Working at Monarch can be challenging at times but it is always rewarding.

As doctoral student, I want to focus my research on the resilience-promoting factors present in schools. We know the risks for homeless students are many. And we also know many students succeed despite all the risks they are experiencing. So, through my research, I want to find out what schools are doing to help students overcome the risks and experience academic and social emotional success.

And, finally, my family. My wife Cathy is a special education teacher in our district. She has been extremely supportive through this work/school process. Our two little ones, Ella and Ryan, keep us on our toes. Below is a picture our family doing what we love most: travelling. Ryan was a "bun in the oven" when this picture was taken...
